Description

Earlier 19th century. Single storey, 3-bay kennel range with rectangular-plan barn to SE. Rubble.

KENNELS, E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 3-bay sections delineated by low boundary walls, cast-iron decorative railings and gates; timber entrance doors to right of each bay, windows to left. Grey slate roof.

W (REAR) ELEVATION: blank.

BARN, N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: elliptical-arched entrance; 2-leaf doors; semi-circular arched opening to gablehead. Grey slate roof; rooflight.

INTERIORS: not seen 1999.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: coped rubble boundary walls. Circular-plan gatepiers flanking drive; conical caps.

Statement of Interest

Kennels and barn to Balgreggan estate, mansion house demolished in 1966. A re-modelling of the old house, partly of 1672, is attributed to William Adam, probably after 1725 and before 1730. The walled garden, contained within the estate, is listed separately.
