Description

Circa 1800. Icehouse sited by Ury Burn with tunnel access to domed underground chamber. Brick and ashlar. Semi-derelict ashlar doorway damaged by tree stump; shallow vaulted entrance passage with ashlar walls and brick roof leading to inner ashlar doorway and chamber.

Statement of Interest

Although Buxbaum cites this as an unusual example, saying "occasionally passages were extended, as at Ury, Grampian, presumably in an attempt to improve insulation", the passage does not seem of any great length, and the stonework shows little evidence of alteration
