Description

Probably earlier to mid 19th century, some blocked openings. Rectangular-plan walled garden with rounded angles and fine ironwork gate. Brick with flat ashlar cope. Stugged long and short quoins. Ashlar and brick voussoirs. Segmental-arched openings to W and N, square-headed openings to N and E, latter with hooped ironwork gate. Remains of circular ashlar fountain.

S ELEVATION GATE: dwarf wall to centre with inset decorative ironwork railings flanking segmental-arched decorative ironwork 2- leaf gate with scrollwork cresting.

Statement of Interest

Brucklay Castle once boasted fine formal terraced gardens and picturesque walks leading to the Walled Garden which survives in good condition. Other key architectural elements of this which continue to punctuate the grounds include the Old Laundry, the south and west bridges, and the burial ground
