William Theed, dated 1867, bronze cast (by Elkingtons) derived from marble statue also by William Theed, 1862. Bronze statue of Prince Albert, standing with 1 hand on faithful hound and rifle in other. Kilted dress with plaid. Placed upon rocky granite pedestal, inscribed 'Albert Scot 1867'.
The scene of the unveiling of the statue on 15 October 1867, was recorded by George Thomas. The later statue of Queen Victoria stands nearby. The marble statue is held at the Castle. Theed (1804-1891) was the son of a sculptor and painter and sometimes referred to as 'the younger'. His work was valued by the Prince Consort and he was chosen by the Queen to take his death mask in 1861.
