History

Early C18, and shown on a 1742 print of Ruthin Castle by the Buck brothers. It was possibly built by John Wynne, following his marriage in 1733, who also carried out improvements to the house. Interior of gazebo is said to contain a coved quadripartite plaster ceiling, grooved and with a boss.

Exterior

Tall square-plan 2-storey 1-window gazebo. The lower storey is of rubble stone, the upper storey of small-scantling timber-framing with brick infill. Formerly roughcast, but this now partly missing. Hipped swept slate roof with moulded wooden eaves cornice and wooden finial; lateral brick stack to NW. Accommodation to 1st floor, with flight of external stone steps leading up from E side onto a concrete platform: Doorway in moulded frame, boarded over. To W side, upper lights of a wooden cross-window with diamond quarries, the lower lights boarded over. The remaining windows are boarded over: To N side, reached from concrete platform, and to S side at ground and 1st floor levels. To R of the latter, under the staircase block, is a boarded doorway. Against the W side at ground floor level, is a stone lean-to under a corrugated iron roof, with boarded doorway to S.
