Steep-pitched roof and small surviving internal details suggest an early, probably medieval, origin. Upgraded and refurbished C18/early C19.
Georgian-fronted inn, attached at and set back from each side. Rendered and painted with slate roof with yellow brick corniced end stacks. Two storeys, 4-window range of 12-pane horned sashes to first floor; ground floor has tripartite sashes to sides and centre right doorway with 6-panelled door and bracketed hood, 12-pane sash to left. Deep painted plinth.
Interior has long central cross passage from front door with rooms opening off either side; some have 6-panelled doors and reeded surrounds. Stairs rise parallel to frontage at mid-right. To left are the bars. Front bar has 2 shallow cross beams, window seats and reeded plaster surround to alcoves either side of fireplace. In the wall between bars is a small rectangular window at low level with leaded diamond quarries. In rear bar is a small low window with Tudor arch; 4-centred arched fireplace in inner wall. Rear outbuildings incorporated into bar with large gable end stack and further later extension.
An inn retaining its historic fabric and character and a central position in the square. Group value with other listed buildings in Twyn Square.
