A probably early C19 rebuild of a C17 house. Church Street had some widening as part of the improvements associated with Priory Street and White Swan Court in c1837, but according to the maps the south side of the street had been set back in part previous to this. It is not known whether No. 21 is a complete rebuild or if C17 fabric remains.
Rendered and painted front with Welsh slate roof. Three storeys, double depth plan, two windows. Probably late C20 reproduction shopfront in late C19 manner. Low stallriser, door to left, 4-pane window with slim mullions, panelled pilasters at either end, plain fascia. Six over 6 pane sashes on first floor and 3 over 6 above. Rear elevation not seen.
The ground floor shows cross beams supporting the first floor.
Included for its special architectural interest as a multi-period building and as part of the continuous run of historic buildings in Church Street.
