History

Fine late C16/early C17 jettied timber frame town house.

Exterior

2-storey and attic 2-window roughcast front with slate roof, truncated brick chimney stack and bracket eaves; skylight to left and gabled dormer to right. 12-pane sash windows to 1st floor with with timber bracketed cornices as on No 4. Overall shop front with trabeated frieze cornice and deep brackets over pilasters, with roll moulding, flanking central and left hand entrances. 8-pane shop windows; half glazed door to centre and 6-panel door with fanlight to left; shop front overlaps the corner to right.

Asymmetrical right gable end with front verge rising to cap of chimney stack and rear verge rising to base of stack. Timber lintel over 3-light timber frame window with ovolo moulded mullions, one subdividing mullion to left and hooks for shutters. Modern facing at rear (originally jettied) and lean-to.

Interior

Interior retains largely original A-frame roof truss; the timber framing of the front wall is visible and there is a stop chamfered beam to ground floor.
