The story is that this tripanum was taken from the Abbey with the intention that it would go above the door of the 'new' church at Abbey cwm-hir. Unfortunately it was broken, and dumped a few yards from the Abbey. Some 150 years later it was dug up and placed in the garden wall of a cottage adjacent to the Abbey, where it may be seen to this day if one gains permission to enter the garden.
