History

Pit sunk 1849 and first wheel fitted 1852. Present water-wheel dates from 1906 and was made at the Eagle Foundry, Aberystwyth. The wheel is of overshot type, powered via underground pipes from the ornamental pond to SE of walled garden. Via underground shafting, the wheel drove machinery and hoists in the Home Farm and in the early C20, powered electricity for the house, through a battery house set up in the stable-block.

Exterior

Large stone-lined wheel-pit with big overshot cast-iron wheel.
