History

Late C18 to mid C19 house of traditional type. Wallis Street is shown as continuously built up to about this point on 1844 tithe map.

Exterior

House, painted stone rubble, with imitation slate roof and end stacks, painted brick to left and rendered to right. Two-storey double-fronted but with irregular spacing and downslope stepping of lower window and door heads, suggesting possibly that a single storey house has been raised. Upper floor has 2 small 4-pane casement windows. Ground floor has a narrow 4-pane sash window to left, centre doorway with ledged stable door and right slightly broader 4-pane sash, sashes aligned with casements above. Door is set slightly closer to left window. All windows have rough slate sills. Some brickwork in left-hand corner of wall, windowless left gable end. Previous listing notes cement grouted roof.

Reasons for Listing

Included as a 2-storey vernacular house of traditional type.
