I understand that the manor was built for John Basset and his family, then John Aubrey and his family bought the house later on.
What is lovely about this manor, you can read the history of the building. it looks as though it was built and extended two or three times.
You can see when the window tax was introduced. You can also see that the floor level is further down than the present date, by the window which is almost buried.
