History

The gate was made in 1825 by R.Hughes of Wrexham, and was originally at Glynllifon, Caernarvonshire, another seat of the Wynn's. It was moved to its present site c1970-80.

Exterior

Highly ornamental cast and wrought iron gate and piers, painted and gilded. Open-work cast piers with quatrefoil decoration and applied rosettes, each surmounted by a gilded heraldic emblem (a double-headed eagle). Gate has enriched top and bottom rails, and applied gilded wrought iron decoration comprising 4 linked semi-circles with heraldic motifs.

Reasons for Listing

A very fine example of an ironwork gateway, which although not at its original site, forms part of the context of the house at Rug.
