The following is paraphrased from text provided by Pembrokeshire Museum Service.
Penrhos Cottage is a classic example of a Tŷ unnos, literally “a house in one night.” According to Welsh tradition, if a person could build a shelter overnight on common land and have smoke rising from the chimney by morning, they could claim the land as their own.
Built around 1800 and last lived in as recently as 1968.
The exterior of the Cottage needs conservation and restoration. The roof had a partial re-thatch in 2012 and due to the increasing adverse weather conditions, now needs to be restored; scheduled to commence in May 2026.
