Church of St Andrew

A Grade I Listed Building in Garthorpe, Leicestershire

Church St Andrew, Coston

Uploader's Comments

South aisle western window with cusped vesica piscis (fish bladder) tracery in the top. C14 Decorated Gothic coped aisle parapet with corbel table of trailing vines. I see the gargoyle as a somewhat eroded monster pike. A medieval East Midlands mason would scarcely have seen a crocodile. A re-cut in 1846 for Weightman and Hadfields restoration of the church would have had cleaner lines, I feel. (Photo Sept 2007).
