A Grade I Listed Building in Garthorpe, Leicestershire

Church St Andrew, Coston

West aspect. Slightly projecting tower with round headed, Cll Norman, single lancet window in the first stage. C14 Perpendicular Gothic bell stage, with octagonal broach spire, is narrow. This smallness probably led Pevsner to believe that a bell-cote was originally planned. To the left, the chamfered single lancet in the north aisle west end appears Early English Gothic. The double lancet in the south aisle has an uncusped, vesica piscis (fish bladder), shape in the top. St Andrew was a fisherman. (Photo Sept 2007).
