Public house. Dated 1902. Brick with stone dressings on
red granite base, slate roof. 2 storeys with attic, 4 bays
to Smithdown Road, 3-bay curved corner and 3 bays to Lodge
Lane. Cornice over ground floor, 1st floor sill course and
top frieze, cornice and parapet. 2nd, 3rd and 4th bays form
symmetrical composition with 2 entrances with granite
surrounds, 2:4:2-light mullioned and transomed 1st floor
windows with balconies and 2 shaped gables with finials.
1st bay has canted ground floor bay window and hipped half-
dormer. Corner has entrance With pilasters and broken
segmental pediment, 1:3:1 1st floor windows, enriched panels
and finial. Lead covered cupola has open stage and panels
and ogival roof and spike finial, 2 tall stacks. Lodge Lane
facade similar. Interior: Richly panelled rooms with
alcoves, and tiled bar; rich fireplaces. Coved plaster
ceiling. C20 mural decorations to 2 rooms.
