C1855-40, an imposing stucco villa in ornate Grecian style; set back behind
carriage sweep. Two storey symmetrical 5 bay front, the single outer bays
recessed as subsidiary wings and screened coach house and service yard to
south side. Plinth as base to pilaster strips supporting deep ground floor
entablature with rosettes. First floor has pilasters with scrolling capitals
supporting ornate stucco frieze over outer bays over centre block. Plain
entablature with large cornice and high parapet the bays flanking centre with
panels of pierced portholes. Plain entablatures to lower wings. Tripartite
ground floor windows with consoles to lintels, slightly projecting as
rectangular bays. Similar projection to first floor sash windows, the central
one in architrave surround with moulded pediment. The wings have similar
fenestration. Large central porch set on high plinths flanking steps: square
piers with ornate oversized Corinthian capitals, supporting deep entablature
breaking forward from and continuous with that over ground floor, balcony
parapet above pierced by ornamental portholes, projecting corner blocks.
Screen wall to south side pierced by gateway to service and stable yard,
flanked by large piers with cornices and blocking courses. The slate roof is
concealed by parapet. The flanking stucco chimney stacks are set on raised
centre of flanks with panelled parapet stepped up.
