House, now museum. c1490, with. late C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Timber-framed, painted brick infill, brick replacement walling and refacing, sandstone rubble and brick plinth, plain tiled roofs, brick chimney stack to main ridge, large external stacks to left side and rear elevation. Hall and cross-wing plan, hall part on north/south axis with cross-wing at south gable end; both of two framed bays; cross-wing has a small, single bay wing projecting southwards. Two storeys with cellar to rear cross-wing.
Framing: irregular, mainly four square panels from sill to wall-plate, large swept braces in lower corners of cross-wing gable ends, collar and tie-beam trusses with queen-struts exposed in gable ends.
Main elevation to west: scattered fenestration; all windows have plank weatherings; ground floor of main range has a three-light casement, a 16-pane sash and a rectangular light, above are two gabled dormers with casements, and, on the left side a pair of casements; the cross-wing gable end has paired casements on both floors. Main entrance in south elevation on left side having a late C19 timber-framed, gabled porch and a ledged and battened door. Small wing to right has a planked door on its east side and a first floor casement in the west side; between the wing and the porch is a first floor casement.
Interior: roof not accessible.
Main beams are stop-chamfered. Late C19 and mid-C20 extensions to rear.
