POWDERHAM CHURCH ROAD (south side),
SX 98 SE Powderham
House. C18 or early C19 with later C19 and early C20 additions. Colourwashed and
rendered, probably cob and stone, early C20 brick rear wing; main block with
ornamental tiled roof, gabled at ends, with deep verges, rear wing with slate roof;
end stacks with brick shafts, 3 with good chimneypots.
Plan: The main block is 2 rooms wide, single depth, -extended to the rear by a one
room plan wing, probably late C19, the wing further extended in about 1906
(information from occupier).
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3Lbay'front with a pretty gabled porch on posts
with a tiled roof in the centre with a C19 panelled front door ; C18 or C19 small
pane timber casement windows. The right return of the miin block has an early C20
canted bay. The rear brick wing has 3/1 pane timber sashes.
Group value with thatched houses at the Powderham entrance to Powderham Castle.
