House, formerly schoolhouse. Probably C18, C19 addition at left end, late C19/early
C20 rear wing. The main block colourwashed rendered cob and stone rubble ; thatched
roof, gabled at ends ; end stacks with brick shafts . The left end addition has a
tiled roof and stack, the rear wing is brick with a stack.
Plan: Overall T plan. The main block is single depth, 2 or 3 rooms wide with an
axial passage parallel with the front wall. 1 room plan single-storey addition at
the left: 2-storey late C19/early C20 rear wing.
Exterior: 2 storeys, single storey block at left end. Asymmetrical 3 window front to
main block, the eaves thatch eyebrowed over the first floor windows. Lean-to porch
to left of centre with a tiled roof on posts ; C19 panelled front door, the top
panels glazed. Small pane C19 and C20 timber casements.
Interior: Not inspected.
Group value with thatched cottages at the Powderham entrance to Powderham Castle.
