Pair of estate cottages. Early C19. Colourwashed rendered cob and stone rubble ;
thatched roof, hipped at ends ; end stacks ; rear right lateral stack. Cottage
ornee.
Plan: Pair of 1 room plan adjoining cottages, single depth with later rear additions
and front doors to the centre.
Exterior: Single-storey and attic. Symmetrical 4-window front with plank front doors
to the centre with rectangular fanlights with glazing bars and gabled porch hoods
with curly bargeboards and timber pendants ; canted bay windows with small-pane C19
timber casements to left and right with thatched roofs ; 4 first floor gabled half
dormers with peaked thatched roofs, curly bargeboards and timber pendants. Later
single-storey rear additions with 2 plastic windows introduced on the right return of
the addition to the right hand cottage.
Interior: Not inspected.
Group value with Verbena Cottage (q,v.) and sited at the Powderham entrance to
Powderham Castle.
