BERROW CP
The Old Barn

(Formerly listed as Barn approximately 50 yards north-east of Holiday's Farmhouse)

II

Converted barn. C16 or earlier. Cruck-framed with walls of weatherboarded timber-framing and corrugated iron roof. Left-hand part of south-west wall covered by later lean-to. Wide doorway, to right, has sill on stone and brick plinth. The lintel, below the wall-plate, is framed between principal posts.

Interior: four bays. Framed studwork and wattle holes suggest that the southern gable truss has always been closed. It has a tie-beam and blades which terminate at collar level. The three internal trusses have high collars, yokes and blades which abut the ridge and are not jointed to each other at the apex. The north gable truss was not fully visible, but has blades which reach the apex and has wattle holes in the collar. The side walls are framed in large square panels. Intermediate studs are not framed in and are probably a later insertion. Both walls have a curved tension brace at each end.
