630-1/18/523 (South side)
12/03/55 Eagle Lodge

GV II

Villa, now offices. c1825, with later additions and
alterations including c1970s extension to rear. Stucco over
brick with hipped slate roof. L-shaped plan with central
hallway.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with basement and attic, 3 first-floor
windows. Central entrance a 6-panel door with fanlight with
radial glazing bars, semicircular Doric portico has frieze
with triglyphs and metopes, cornice and blocking course.
Ground floor has tripartite 1/1 sashes with pilaster strips
between and moulded cornice, in plain reveals, with
cambered-arched recess above with moulded fan motif.
Continuous first-floor sill band. First floor has 6/6 sashes
in wider, shallow, cambered-arched recesses. Wide eaves on
brackets. End stacks. Attic has round-arched roof dormers with
casement windows. Right return has 1:2:1 first-floor windows;
central full-height bow; 6/6 sashes where original, otherwise
ground-floor has tripartite 2/2 between 1/1 sash with fluted
pilaster strips between and in tooled reveals.
INTERIOR: not inspected. Externally this is an interesting
villa design, the fans set into the tympanae being an unusual
feature and the bowed return bay and front porch giving it a
more 3-dimensional quality than many other more formal and
contemporary villa designs.
