Pillar box. 1866-79. Designed by JW Penfold, cast by Cochrane
Grove and Company of Dudley. Hexagonal with elaborate leaf
decorated crest and lettering 'VR'. Cheltenham retains 8 of
the 64 Penfold-type Victorian pillar boxes reputed to remain
of the country. Others are located in Bayshill Road (qv),
College Lawn (qv), Douro Road (qv), Evesham Road (qv),
Montpellier Walk (qv), Pittville Circus Road (qv) and St
Paul's Road (qv).
