Villa, now hotel. c1830-60 with later alterations. Stucco over
brick with hipped slate roof and 2 tall stucco ridge stacks.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement to rear, 5 first-floor
windows arranged 2:1:2, with outer 2 bays breaking forward and
gabled. Stucco detailing includes tooled architraves to
windows, those to ground floor are eared, those to first floor
have frieze and cornice with that to centre with pediment, all
on sills with feet. 6/6 sashes throughout. Central entrance in
tall solid porch with Corinthian columns on plinths, tooled
architrave, frieze and modillion cornice; round-arched opening
with keystone and flight of steps to recessed 4-panel door
with side-lights and overlight. Wide eaves. Low walls to sides
of steps abut porch. Rear has 6/6 sashes. Right return (to
Lansdown Road), 5 first-floor windows. 2-window bay to right
breaks forward and is gabled. Similar stucco details.
INTERIOR: retains original joinery and plasterwork including
ground-floor rooms have embellished cornices; dining room has
ceiling roses, deep frieze with acanthus leaves and scroll
frieze to ceiling. Staircase remains from first floor and has
stick balusters. Panelled shutters (now nailed up).
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: garden facade has continuous balcony with
embellished panels to balustrade. First-floor windows have
individual balconies.
