Terrace of 12 houses and attached railings. c1820-1850. Stucco
over brick with slate roof, brick and stucco party-wall stacks
and iron railings and balconies. Double depth plan with side
stairhalls and 1-, 2- and 3-storey service ranges to rear.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys on basements, 24 first-floor windows (2
per house). Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication
to ground floor; ground-, first- and second-floor bands;
crowning frieze and cornice with blocking course. Mainly 6/6
sashes where original, tall to first floor; except ground
floor, Nos 20 and 22 have 6/6 between 2/2 sashes, house to
right has 2/2 horizontal-pane between 2/2 sashes; all in plain
reveals and with sills, those to ground floor have panelled
aprons. Side entrances (9 to left, then to right, left and
right): flights of roll-edged steps to 4-panel doors, some
part-glazed, with divided overlights. Rear retains many 6/6
sashes.
INTERIOR: noted as retaining original joinery including
panelled shutters.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: continuous first-floor balcony has bowed
rods and frieze of circles. Individual balconies to second
floor (Nos 22 and 24) have scroll motif. No.22 has balcony
with scroll and roundel. Railings to sides of steps
throughout.
