Description

HOLCOMBE ROGUS
ST 02 SE
2/93 Cider house approximately 3 metres
- east of Freathingcott Farmhouse
GV II
Cider house. Probably C17, refurbished in mid C19. Local stone rubble with larger,
more carefully-dressed, quoins; corrugated iron roof (formerly thatch).
Plan: Cider house built down a hillslope facing Freathingcott Farmhouse (q.v) to
the west. Apple store over.
Exterior: front doorway is flanked by 3-light casement windows, all C19 joinery
detail. The tall roof is half-hipped each end. At the left (north) end there is an
external flight of steps to the apple store loading hatch.
Interior: not inspected but may include some C17 carpentry.
This cider house with the other listed farmbuildings around the farmyard form an
exceptionally good group of traditional farmbuildings serving nearby Freathingcott
Farmhouse (q.v). The visual impact of the whole group is enhanced by their setting
on a steep hillslope.
