- Linhay approx 10 metres
south of Moor Farmhouse
GV II
Linhay. Probably late C17. Cob outer walls on rubble footings; oak and elm frame;
corrugated iron roof (formerly thatch). L-shaped linhay facing into courtyard to
north and west. East range of 6 bays and south of 4, with cob-walled stable in 5th
(end) bay. Timber posts and beams tied into rear cob walls and open on both
levels, except for some C20 breeze block walling in south wing. Roughly-squared
timbers of large scantling; the front posts, many resting on stone bases, slighly
jowled projections to give added support to first floor cross beams and have deep
slots at the top to clasp the trusses (A-frames with lap-jointed collars).
Construction is jointed and pegged together with many timbers have gouged
carpenter's assembly marks - either roman numerals or rows of semi-circles. The
projecting pent roof is C20 additional C20 wrought-iron weather vane on north
gable. A well-preserved early linhay.
