His surcoat has the Arms: Argent on a chevron sable three quatrefoils of the field (Eyre) quartered with Argent three horse barnacles sable (Padley) In addition to his colours she has Azure five lozenges in fess or (Plompton) (Photo Jun 2016).
They are saying in Latin -May the Holy Trinity have mercy upon us-.
Converted to modern spelling I read the inscription as -This (ye) Arthur Eyre was son of Robert son of Robert son of Robert otherwise called Robenet (this to make him sound like Robin Hood) who married Joan Padley. Which that Arthur had three wives. Margaret daughter of the Robert Plompton of Plompton in Yorkshire, knight was his first wife. Alice daughter of Thomas Coffyn of Devonshire esquire the 2 wife and Dorothy daughter of Humphrey Okeover of Okeover in the county of Stafford she was his 3 wife. By Margaret he had (issue) three sons Robert (Harry?) and Edmond and 4 daughters Katheryn Margaret Anne and Joan and by Alice one son named George which the sons and daughters died in their tender age all but Anne. Which after was married as daughter and sole heir of Arthur to Sir Thomas Fitzherbert, knight son and heir of Sir Antony Fitzherbert, knight one of the kings justices of his (not deciphered)-.
