Includes: Lamp post on corner of Gordon Square and Gordon
Street GORDON STREET.
Lamp post. 1890s. Cast by McDowell, Steven and Co, Glasgow and
London. Cast-iron. Base decorated with acanthus leaf. Door
with "St Pancras" on currently missing. Tall, plain shaft with
decorated band. Top with the original carbon arc lamp cradle
type fitting although converted to take an incandescent lamp
and out of use since 1976. HISTORICAL NOTE: of interest as the
last remaining of this type of lamp from the pioneering
authority in electric street lighting (1892) in London.
