House, late C17 with lean-to addition at rear of C19 and C20
extension to right hand. Mostly clear red brick with broad
mortar courses, with modern render to front wall. Projecting
red brick end stacks with offsets and moulded string to brick
stack, late C17, but the one to the right hand is now
incorporated in the C20 extension. Steeply pitched slate roof.
Single range plan of two rooms with original opposing front and
rear doorways at low end of right hand room. The doorways are
now blocked. Two storeys. Two recessed hung sashes, C19, of
sixteen panes each. Two similar windows at ground floor on
either side of doorway. Interior: One original hearth with
original red brick has been exposed. In the rear wall at first
floor level is the original late C17 arch to a window opening
now sealed. The house is cellared. The house occupies part of
the site of the buildings of the Manor of Crowlands which were
rebuilt in c.1454. No evidence of C15 building was visible.
