Show room and storehouse for serpentine factory now empty. Datestone in gable
LSOL over 1866. Snecked serpentine blocks with scantle slate roof and clay
ridge tiles. Built into bedrock with ground rising to north. South elevation:
3 storeys, symmetrical, gable ended. Ground, first and second floor openings
under wide segmental arches with small rusticated keystones. C20 vertical
timber boarding in openings. Datestone below gable. North elevation: one
storey, symmetrical, gable ended with wide brick segmental arched opening in
centre. Ruins of other earlier factory buildings to the west with quay to the
south where flat bottom barges were loaded with serpentine chimney pieces and
other architectural details worked at the factory. Factory ceased to operate in
the early 1890s.
