Capstan House, circa C18. Round dry rubble stone tower without roof with
opening on north. Formerly contained capstan for hauling fishing boats up
beach. Slip to east cut out of bedrock. Adjoined fish (pilchard) cellars to
the west, later replaced by the Carleon Serpentine Factory. Fell into disuse in
late C19.
