Memorial to Lord Dunstanville and Basset of Tehidy. Dated 1836 on base.
Dressed granite in large blocks. Massive tapering octagonal cross; plinth approx.
12 metres square and 3 metres high, with round-headed doorway in south side;
square 2-course base to short octagonal broached pedestal with weathered coping,
south side of pedestal inscribed:-

AD 1836
Small square opening at top of each cardinal side of shaft; concave-sided cross
pierced from front to back by a diamond-shaped opening. With Carn Brea Castle
to east, a very prominent landmark, perhaps designed also to serve as a
navigational beacon for shipping off the north coast.
