Garden wall and gateways north-west of Greystoke Castle

Garden wall and 2 gateways. Late C18 with mid C19 alterations. Mixed grey and
pink sandstone rubble. Low wall of varying height, under flat coping stones;
the northern end having 2 C18 square rusticated gate piers, with side supporting
scrolls (similar piers were in front of the castle and are shown on a drawing of
1825). A C19 Tudor-Gothic doorway has been cut through the southern end of the
wall, with the Howard motto inscribed on a ribbon scroll. Listed for group
value with Greystoke Castle.
