Large house now used as a hotel. Early C18 altered and extended early-mid C19. Coursed squared and dressed limestone now mostly pebble-dashed with exposed quoins. Slate roof with ashlar stacks. Extension to left of main body coursed square and dressed limestone and brick with a slate roof. Rectangular plan to main body with later extensions at rear and to left. Symmetrical, 3- storey, 5-windowed facade. Twelve-pane sashes to ground and first floors. Moulded string above ground floor windows. Six-pane sashes to second floor. All windows within moulded architraves. Central C19 six panel door, upper four panels fielded. Large hall light with marginal glazing bars above. Left-hand return; double early plank door at centre within a flat-chamfered surround, small 2-light stone-mullioned casement immediately over doorway with stopped hood continued to left up to a 12-pane sash within a moulded architrave with keystone. Three stone-mullioned cross windows. Three 6-pane sashes within moulded surrounds to second floor. Early lead downpipe with segmental rainwater head. Twelve and 6-pane sashes to right-hand return of main body. Two-storey bow window to extension at rear, lit by 12-pane sashes. Main body; hipped roof with flat-centre section with off-the-ridge stacks. Interior; early C19 staircase with three stick balusters per tread wreathed handrail and decorative brackets with foliate carving to each riser . Reused C17 panelling with fluted frieze to ground floor. Similar but possibly original panelling in an upstairs room. C19 marble fireplace with frieze decorated with fruit and flowers within bow-windowed extension on ground floor. History; the house was built c1700 by the Capel family.
