lodges Moat House

Bridge over moat and attached pair of lodges. Inscription on
bridge 'CAST AT COALBROOKDALE 1851'. Lodges probably of the same
date. Bridge; cast iron. Lodges; blue lias with limestone
dressings. Bridge with serpent-like circular decoration in the
spandrels. Cast-iron railing with anthemion decoration at the top
of each baluster. Pair of lodges both on the north side of the
moat. Square, single unit plan to both lodges. Blocked 2-light
stone-mullioned windows with hoods at the front of each. Similar
blocked stone-mullioned windows in rear walls over the moat.
Original studded plank doors set within double-chamfered limestone
surrounds. Projecting stack (without a shaft) to the left-hand
lodge. Moulded cornice with a battlemented parapet. Interiors
not inspected.
