Farmhouse now empty.- Circa late C17 to early C18 extended to rear with 2 wings
probably early C18. Stone rubble and cob with scantle slate roof with hipped ends.
2 rear projecting wings with hipped ends. Projecting stone rubble chimney stacks on
hipped ends. Left-hand higher end with shaft removed and cloam oven projection and
right-hand lower end with brick shaft. Rear wing projecting from higher end with
projecting stone rubble lateral chimney stack with cloam oven projection.
2 room and through passage plan. Extended to rear in circa early Cl8 with heated rear
wing projecting from higher end and unheated rear wing, probably dairy, from lower
end. Thus producing an overall 'U' shape plan. Stair projection inserted to rear of
through passage in circa mid C19 filling space between rear wings to produce a double
depth plan. The 2 rear wings continue to project very slightly from stair
projection.
2 storeys symmetrical 3-window front. Ground floor with 2 C19 2-light casements both
beneath timber lintels. Stone rubble porch with slate lean-to roof in centre. 4-
panel door within. Above 3 C19 2-light centre-hung casements.
Interior wide through passage retained. Plastered ceiling to lower room and fairly
slight chamfered ceiling beams to higher room. C19 chimney piece at higher gable end
with Cornish range by Biscombes of Callington. C20 chimney piece to lower gable end.
Dairy in unheated rear wing. C19 segmental brick arch to fireplace in heated rear
wing. C19 stair in stair projection to rear. First floor with probably reset light
plank and muntin screens dividing bedrooms and passage. Muntins chamfered and planks
are fielded on 1 side. Sole plate replaced. Roof to main range with 4 trusses. The
principals are chamfered and halved, lapped and pegged at apex. The collars are
chamfered and halved, lapped and pegged into the principals. Trenched purlins.
Carpenters marks. 'Rear wings with similar roof timbers. The 4 elevations and
interior of North Muchlarnick are particularly unspoilt.
