Smugglers Cottage

GV II

Detached cottage with back facade to street, originally probably 2 dwellings.
Probably C17. Colourwashed rendering, thatch roof. Alterations and refene-
stration conceal original plan, but probably 3 room plan with cross-passage
behind large central stack. To the road is 1 1/2 storeys; at ground floor are five
2-light casements with glazing bars, and one single light. A short section of
wall is brought forward at right end, then a set back unit with higher eaves.
First floor has two 2-light casements to eyebrow at left end. Large ridge stack
off centre, left, and small square stack below ridge in right half above pro-
jecting bay. Hipped left end has small 2-light over a large C20 casement. Back
has large central swept down roof section over a 'rustic' porch, to the left of
this are two 2-light casements to eyebrows, above a C20 door, a 2 and a 3-light
casement. Porch has long shallow 7-light, and entrance plank door within porch,
and, to right a 2-light to eyebrow above French doors and a 2-light casement.
Interior not inspected.
