ST 01 SE UFFCULME ASHILL

Detached cottage. Probably late C17. Roughcast cob on stone footings; hipped
thatched roof. 2-room central cross-passage plan with a wing to the rear of the
right-hand room. Axial stack with brick shaft at the junction of rear wing and main
range. 2 storeys.
Exterior. Front: symmetrical 2-window range (with a blocked window above the
porch). First floor with C19 3-light casement windows, 6 leaded panes per light.
Ground floor : left-hand window in process of replacement at time of re-survey visit
(October 1985). 3-light casement window to right; central porch, timber, part-
glazed, and thatched. Right-hand side elevation : one 3-light C19 casement window
to first floor. 18 leaded panes per light; ground floor : panelled door with
rectangular overlight, and a former shop window with 35 panes. 2 blocked windows in
addition. 2 ground-floor windows to left-hand end of main range. Rear outshut
under catslide. Interior not inspected. Little Thatch contributes to the village
scene.
