ST 01 SE UFFCULME ASHILL

Farmhouse. Early C19. Red brick in Flemish bond; hipped slate roof. 2-room
single-depth central staircase plan, the rooms to each floor heated by 2 internal
rear lateral stacks, 1 now dismantled; service room in rear lean-to 3 storeys.
Exterior. Front: symmetrical 3-window range. Overhanging eaves and cornice with
dentils. 2nd and 3rd floor identical with hornless sash windows, the central 1 with
12 panes, the outer windows with 16. Ground floor: 16-pane hornless sash windows
flank doorway with panelled reveals and soffit; the panelled door with rectangular
overlight. Left and right-hand sides identical with one 12-pane hornless sash
window to each floor. The cornice returns to either end. Rear leanto. Interior
not inspected. Welshes Farm is a prominent feature in Ashill Village, designed in a
fashionable Georgian style and quite unlike the traditional cob-built buildings
around it.
