Mechanics Institute now house and meeting hall. 1844-45 (White's
Directory). Deeply-coursed, horizontally-tooled sandstone; Welsh
slate roof. 2-storey, 3-bay symmetrical front; tall single-storey
wing to centre rear with addition to its right. Chamfered plinth
and chamfered band beneath ground-floor sill level; clasping corner
pilaster strips. 3 stone steps to C20 double-door in double-chamfered
surround with Tudor-arched lintel and hoodmould. Flanking 3-light
casements with horizontal glazing bars in deeply-chamfered surrounds.
3 similar windows to 1st floor; hoodmould to central window. Chamfered
band beneath embattled parapet which steps up at centre above blank
shield. Pilaster strips rise as embattled turrets. Left return: blind
Tudor-arched opening to 1st floor; raking gable parapet; rear turret.
Wing: tall, chamfered lights with renewed casements; end turrets.

Interior: ornate roof trusses in rear wing have cusped-headed subdivisions.
C20 entrance lobby to left return and additions to rear right corner not
of special interest.
