Public house and dwelling. Mid C17, C19 alterations and additions.
Coursed, squared sandstone now partly rendered; stone slate roof.
Double-depth plan with additions to front right, right return and rear
left. 2 storeys, formerly with attic. Twin-gabled east front retains
most early features. Three 1st-floor windows. Large quoins. chamfered
plinth, stepping down at central doorway. C20 part-glazed door in moulded,
quoined, surround with Tudor-arched lintel and keystone. Double-chamfered
and mullioned windows: window to right, originally 4-light, only retains
central mullion. To left of door a large casement in altered surround:
sill lowered, concrete lintel. Continuous dripmould steps up over door
lintel. 1st floor: single-light window above door with intact 3-light
window to right and casement in altered surround to left; dripstones.
Blind 2-light attic windows with dripstones. Shaped kneelers and ashlar
gable copings. Courtyard front: two 1st-floor windows. Rendered. Plinth,
stepping down at doorway to right of centre and at position of former
doorway to left. 6-panel door in chamfer-stopped surround with arched
lintel and remains of keystone, surround obscured by rendering. Flanking
windows have projecting sills, 16-pane sashes and plain lintels. Large
iron lantern over door has decorative cast-iron bracket. 1st-floor
windows as ground floor. Brick end stack to right, another stack to
left set behind ridge. Range of buildings attached to front right not
of special interest.
