Pair of houses, upper end of short row. Early to mid C19.
Large squared cut block to front, rendered gable, asbestos
cement slate roof, but slate to back. Two storeys, and attic,
each 1-windowed. 4-pane replacement sashes; to centre 6-panel
doors, part glazed. The sashes to No 159 are deeper than those
in 161. Coped verge, left; brick gable stacks, that to right
on stone base. Back has central paired small 2-light
flat-roofed dormer, flanked by new roof lights, over 4-pane
sashes and replacement doors. To front a small paved area, and
4 concrete steps to doors. Return gable is to Cove Cottages.
This pair and adjoining No 163 (qv) recently renovated (June
1991) with replacement windows, but sympathetic to original
detail.
