Two cottages. C17, with early C19 alterations. Limestone
rubble, pantile roof with central brick stack.
2 storeys; each is 2-window range. Both have C20 small 2-light
casements, cottage to the left has a beam inserted at
first-floor lintel level, possibly a previous wall-plate, and
2 casements to ground floor. Paired, early C19,
two-vertical-panel doors. Cottage to right has one 2-light
casement with new lintels to window and door. Right return is
a C20 rubblestone wall replacing original cob to first floor.
INTERIOR: Cottage to the right has lobby entry with newel
stair nearest to the door, said to have oak treads below those
now in use. Door to stair is planked oak with a cockshead
hinge; wide floorboards to first floor are oak, with other
planked doors. Cottage to the left has opposed plan, but
similar features.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Early C19 widely-spaced railings with
small spearheads and working gate to No.9 on the right.
