GV II

House. Mid C18, altered c1800 and c1860. Ham Hill stone ashlar
with stucco side wings and rubblestone returns, rubblestone
and brick to rear and slate roof. Double-depth plan with rear
outshuts.
2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range. Keyed flat stone arches
over 8/8-pane sashes. c1860 doorcase in Regency style with
pediment, overlight and 6-panel door; there is evidence of a
previous pediment of a steeper pitch. C20 single-storey wings
have parapets which sweep up to the house. First-floor windows
to the rear have unused wooden lintels one course above the
existing windows. c1800 single-storey addition to rear has
c1860 canted bay to left and c1860 cast-iron trellised
conservatory to the right. A glazed lobby above back door, at
turn of stairs inside, has an 8/8-pane tripartite window.
INTERIOR: Skirtings and doors are mid C18; reeded cornices,
white marble fire-surround to ground-floor left and some
elliptical arches are c1800; staircase with turned balusters
and newels, stair-window with coloured margin panes and marble
fire-surround to ground-floor right are c1860.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Cast-iron gates and square-section open
trellis gate piers to front curving to former coach entrance
on left return. High brick walls approx 30m x 50m enclose back
garden.
