Pair of attached houses. c1770. Stucco and brick with limestone dressings, limestone ashlar rear elevation, brick party wall stacks and a pantile hipped double-pile roof. Double-depth plan. Mid Georgian style. Each of 3 storeys, basement and attic; 2-window range. Stucco ground floor, brick above, pilasters to the cornice and parapet. Right-hand doorcase on No.20, central on No.21, with consoles to an open pediment, moulded keyed semicircular arch, fanlight and 6-panel door. No.20 has a ground-floor canted bay with 8/8-pane and flanking 6/6-pane sashes, No.21 has a mid C19 two-storey extension to the side, and has windows with flat surrounds and aprons; upper windows have cambered heads with 5 stepped voussoirs and 6/6-pane sashes. The extension is 2 storeys; 3-window range, flat architraves to plate-glass sashes with horizontal bars, sill bands, first-floor lintel band, frieze and cornce. Rear elevation each has a full-height canted bay, separated by a lead hopper and down pipe. INTERIOR: No.20, hall divided by fluted pilasters to a semicircular arch, with wainscot and dado; a central lateral dogleg stair with ramped rail, column-on-vase balusters and column newels; built-in kitchen dresser in the basement to the rear; 4-panelled shutters and 6-panel doors. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached front area railings to No.21, and attached wrought-iron railings with urn finials to the doorway of No.20; attached brick garden wall to the rear.
