GV II

Canal warehouse by branch of Birmingham Canal Navigation. 1869-71. For Shropshire Union Canal and Railways Co. Brick with blue brick and ashlar dressings; double-span slate roof with brick stacks. L-plan. 2 storeys. Tall panels and top brick cornice; cart entrance to left has girder under brick relieving arch; return segmental-headed loading door; 2 gables to right end have roundels with grilles; 3 boarded windows have ashlar lintels and brick relieving arches; left end stack and 2 lateral stacks, truncated. Right return has 2 boarded windows, originally with sashes; rear has 2 gables to wing; girder to boat hole to left under relieving arch; small lean-to addition to left and segmental-headed window with small-paned casement to right; right end has windows with 4-pane sashes. INTERIOR is well-preserved: round iron columns support girders; crane to side of boat hole; 1st floor has round iron columns supporting timber beams and tie beam trusses; some hoisting gear.
