GV II

Walls, railings, gates and gatepiers encircling the park.
1880. By Bayliss, Jones and Bayliss. Ashlar on brick base;
cast-iron railings and gates. Low stone-coped walls; railings
have enriched finials. 8 sets of single and paired enriched
gates; piers have battered bases and cusped panels, cornices
and pyramidal caps; some piers are gableted and have acorn
finials; 2 main entrances to north and south have flanking
curved walls with quatrefoil piercing. Park was laid out by
V.H. Vertegans, 1879-81, on the site of Broad Meadows
racecourse. Included for group value.
